Customer Reviews

I’m new to the pet grooming game and I recently rescued a Persian cat of which needs constant grooming. He came with some matting and I tried scissors and even pet hair clippers but was afraid I’d cut his skin. This tool worked as advertised and myself and my cat Fatty are very pleased.

I have 2 Newfoundlands and the summer shed had just begun. They shed faster than my daily vacuuming can keep up with, but the summer shed made it infinitely worse. I wish this brush were wider with more teeth to the comb, but it is still a great product. In about an hour I had pulled off a pile of hair as big as my 150lb puppy. He is happier and cooler, and I am happy that all that fur is not on my floors, clothes, furniture, and walls!

My dogs love this. As for mats, it took a lot to even get a little one out. It was easier to just give my dog a big hair cut because it was making her uncomfortable. As for brushing however, it did a great job! It gets a lot of the undercoat out and my dog loved every second of it. Every time I would stop for just a few seconds she would just look at me and wait for me to keep brushing her and as soon as I would start again she would almost snore.

It works. And not painful in any way.

I have a Himalayan and ragdoll both with incredibly dense undercoats. They don’t like to be brushed (of course) and it’s a struggle to keep up with the tons of mats they get. I’ve tried many different sprays and liquid products, I’ve paid $60 a cat for grooming. Nothing works on these two. I started researching other options and came up with this brush on a Google search and I started trolling for reviews. There wasn’t an overwhelming amount for cats which is why I wanted to review it. If you have a long haired, dense coated and sensitive cat this is a great brush. There is sharp edges inside of it and it actually helps thin the hair out at the base. You don’t ever want to cut but I’ve had to at times. This brush had both cats looking great and they don’t run when I approach with the brush! I would fully recommend this for a cat!

Finally! My six years’ feeling of guilt over failing to keep well-groomed my most-difficult-to-deal-with cat is over! The GoPets Dematting Comb actually does what it claims to do!”Whisper” came to us as a five-week-old kitten abandoned by her mother. We found her under a bush on our property where she was trying to eat its thinnest twigs. She arrived at a bad time. I had four elderly cats in their final months, all requiring regular IVs to keep their kidneys functioning. We couldn’t find a home for her. She had no mother; the only regular care she got was from another relative newcomer to the house — a very-smart young cat who knew her distress and tried to nurture her, while I took care of the older cats. She grew from the tiniest kitten I’d ever seen to a very big and overweight adult who hadn’t been handled enough by humans to know not to lash out with her claws at us when our attempts to groom her hurt her. I bought so many different types of cat brushes and combs for her, always hoping I’d find one that truly performed as its manufacturers claimed, but each purchase was soon set aside. Whisper would invariably draw blood from us each time we tried to make her more comfortable by trying to remove the mats from the parts of her body where her size prevented her from doing self-grooming. (Whether her size is from metabolic causes our vet couldn’t find a source for or whether it’s a condition that resulted from losing those final weeks of her mother’s care — or from the time we were unable to give her the attention she needed … those are things we’ll never know. Whisper remains a mystery, though still a very affectionate cat.)When this GoPets comb arrived, I wanted to try it at once. I found Whisper stretched out on our sofa, sleeping soundly. I woke her up and began stroking her hair with the comb’s widest teeth, and she immediately began to purr. Instead of jumping up and running away or enduring it for a minute or two until swatting me with opened claws, Whisper actually righted her body, stood up, and stayed in place. Her back arched in delight with its stroke of the comb through her extra-thick hair. Rather than trying to evade the comb by positioning parts of her body away from me, she remained calm and kept presenting each uncombed part of her body to me for further combing. I was stunned; this had never happened before!I was able to change to the comb’s side with the closer teeth and begin the allover-body grooming process again, removing the last traces of her matted hair. She purred the entire time and looked so content.I am delighted to have finally found a solution to end the physical discomfort Whisper has endured all these years. I work hard now to try to give her the extra love and attention I wish I could have given her when she found herself alone in the world at such an early age. Trying to make her more comfortable with other combs and brushes when she’d jump into my chair for warmth and care had always ended on a sad note when she’d suddenly lash out at me in pain and then dash suddenly out of my reach. My feelings of guilt at having turned what should have been a loving moment into a physically painful one for her were hard to handle. Those times have now changed from unhappy times to ones in which she allows me to groom her from head to tail, while continually purring, until the job is done and she lays down by the side of my legs and falls asleep. She looks better, and her irritabilty when even touched, much less groomed, is finally a thing of the past. This is the dematter I looked for for years! I highly recommend it to all cat owners!

We bought this with little hope that it would actually work. We tamed a feral cat (over the course of almost 2 years) and though we could finally pet him, we knew we’d never be able to work his mats out. We were able to cut a few chunks with scissors, but that was it. The mats got so bad this summer that we were considering taking him to the vet in a live trap and having them put him under anesthesia to shave them. But we decided to try this product, first. When it arrived, we were disappointed and thought we wasted our money… it didn’t seem to do much. But we tried again a few days later, and it turns out it is all in your technique. Once we tried short, light strokes, it started working like a charm. Within an hour Will Feral looked like a brand new kitty and we got ALL of the mats out! We don’t have to take him to the vet now and have him put under for an expensive procedure. And even better, he looooooooves it. Now we brush him every night and he can’t wait. It’s definitely worth it if you take the time to do it correctly. The key is to do it very gently, and don’t start straight down at the skin. Instead, work the mats out from the end, working your way up toward the skin, just like you would when detangling your own hair. Use very short strokes and then the mat will just come out in a clump before you know it!

This brush is great! It doesn’t go in an cut the mats right out like you would hope or think. Instead it brushes them out and it really works! Watch my video I go into more detail. Large Mats may not come out so easy. If used correctly though you could possibly still get them out. Brushing with this will get small ones out and prevent the big ones. Definitely needed for big fluffy cats!

My 1/2 Maine Coon’s hair is about 3″ long, and while an indoor / fenced yard cat, she managed to get over the fence last week and into some burs. Her normal brush was just not doing the job and causing both of us a lot of stress. Alas, I had to resort to cutting some of the worst mats out that were so tight to her skin, but I finally gave up and decided to try this grooming brush. Deliver was super fast (thank God!, because every day that passed her situation got worse. Anyway, she now has only one bur left in a rather intimate spot that I’ll have to sedate her to get to. But this grooming comb actually has razor sharp blades in the curves, and along with cutting out about 20 burs, it was inevitable that she was going to loose a lot of other hair. The picture is how much hair (most of it her undercoat) just slid off her with this comb. Burs aside, her coat looks a lot better now, softer, smoother, and I’m hoping for an additional benefit of less hairballs to contend with. I wouldn’t use this tool as a daily brushing tool, it wouldn’t take long to scalp her entirely, but I’m very happy to have it on hand now to deal with those snags that come along.

It works wonders with a thick-haired pet. I am able to brush our golden doodle easier and ensure that his coat is thoroughly unmatted. I have a regular brush as well and I can easily tell the difference between them.

I have a long haired kitty that has had many issues with matting very quickly between brushings, pulling her hair out, and just being extra itchy. I’ve got so much different pet brushes and the only one that really got through her hair was a slicker brush, but it still struggled to get through matts. After learning that a matt rake was a thing, I searched and found this one pretty quickly with fantastic reviews. It seemed worth a shot.Holy wow. I spent 30 minutes brushing her last night with her slicker brush and while I got some loose hairs out, it doesn’t even begin to compare to what this brush pulled off her in less than 5 minutes today. The hair just keeps coming off and my cat’s fur feels so much thinner, lighter, and silkier. I think her coat was severely congested and causing most of her issues, but this brush just took care of it in 5 minutes with very little effort. No digging the brush in, no separating sections of fur to work at the matts, no real work whatsoever. It just glides through her coat while pulling out ten tons of hair. My cat loves to be brushed and she had no problems with this rake either. I absolutely recommend if you have a pet with a thick or long coat. This is an absolute game changer!

My dog has so much hair. Living in NC it know longer knows when to thicken or shed! This product works great, especially with matting.Must use gently…then your pup will love it too.

Goldendoodle grooming miracle!!! I spread some peanut butter on a glass door and removed a brown grocery bag worth of mats from my goldendoodle. With the peanut butter, he didn’t even care. And this pup’s groomer requests that he gets sedated prior to his appointments. Every doodle owner should gave this product. Really works, tight curls and all!!

We normally don’t write reviews and I would love to give this a good one but due to being left handed we cannot. The instruction clearly states that if you are left handed to remove the bolt on the top and flip the blades. Easy right….WRONG. What they lack to mention is that you need the assistance of the united states military to remove the bolt. We used every tool we have in our arsenal to attempt to remove the it and it is impossible to remove. We even stripped the bolt due to the amount of force used to try and remove it. If you are left handed and are even thinking about purchasing this, please purchase a gym membership first or get the assistance of two body builders to assist you, one to hold the handle and one to turn the bolt. Shame we sooo wanted to try this. If the makers of this tool is reading this, please give the option for left handed folks as attempting to flip the blades is absolutely DANGEROUS. I almost slipped a few times. Safari Pet Products, please tell us what we are doing wrong to flip it.

I don’t often write reviews, but this comb works so well that I had to let people know.I have two long hair Seal-Point Ragdoll Cats. They often get mats under their “armpits” and along their lower back where they can’t reach very well to groom themselves. I brush them regularly, but the mats are deep, right against the skin and I would often miss preventing them until it was too late and then I would have to work with a comb to try and get them out. This usually took time and some tugging, which they both absolutely hated. They even got to the point that they would run when they saw me getting out the comb. I tried a couple different kinds, including the furminator (which was awful btw. It just tears/cuts their fur out). I saw this advertised and thought I could give it a try since it wasn’t too expensive. OMG! It’s amazing. The comb gets under the matted fur and the blades just glide through it, breaking the mat up. Both cats have no issues with brushing now. I usually start with this comb until I can get through the fur with no issues, then finish them off with another finer comb to get the rest of the loose hair. Highly recommend!

Bought this on recommendation of a friend who used to be a professional dog groomer, and will never look back. Great tool for my long haired German Shepherd. This is one of three rakes I use: a straight-toothed rake, a Furminator, and this one. Each has it’s perfect use. The Furminator I use gently on the dog’s legs and feet (the only short hair she has). The straight rake is used to straighten long hair when it gets curled & mashed, and sometimes is used prior to an extended session with this Oster rake. This Oster rake is used for the other 95% of the dog. Grabs gobs of undercoat hair and helps thin the coat. I tease the dog afterwards that she has given me another “puppy” (my name for the gobs of hair I get out of her). I got this dog as an older dog and she is extremely reluctant to let me brush her soft underbelly and inner thigh areas. Previously I had to shave them with an electric clippers because they’d get matted and she would NOT let me use any sort of comb, rake or brush without squirming and mouthing on me wild-eyed. Now I can use this rake (slowly and gently) and keep her from getting matted hair in those areas.

This rake is a lifesaver to help get the undercoat off a double coated dog. It’s a great tool but easier if you take your hand and go against the hair exposing more of the undercoat. Using a few strokes in each section being careful to just a few as it REALLY gets the undercoat out quick and too much brushing will leave thin/bald spots. Takes loads of time off and so much easier for you and your dog. It does have small “star shaped teeth rings” that help break up mats while the larger “fins” help separate and pull the coat out. The handle is a bit narrow for me personally so I went to the Dollar Store and bought some foam pencil grips and a pool noodle. The pencil grips worked well to help prevent slipping but I needed a bit wider handle so I cut a portion of the Pool noodle and pushed the handle through the centre of the cut piece of noodle making it PERFECT for me to quickly, painlessly brush my dogs. I hope these tips help you not only for this tool but others in your home. I’ve bought wooden handle rakes similar to this for more money and found that this one works best for me. I have a Newfoundland, Great Pyrenees and Pomeranian dogs so I’ve really given this a great workout! Plus with a name like Oster to me it says quality.

Greatest Rake around. I have an Australian Shepherd and its hard to get the undercoat…and I think he sheds 365 days a year. This brush was recommended to me, and to tell you the truth I was skeptical…but after I tried it , could not believe how much hair is removed…it doesn’t cut the hair either…like the Furminaltor. I highly recommend it! Thanks Oster!

Needless to say, I now have two cats.

The only brush I’ll ever use for my German Shepherd. I had a $60 Furminator brush that broke on me. I bought this for less than 1/4 of what I had paid for my Furminator, and it works every bit as well.

Used this brush for the first time today- it was amazing!!

PICK, DON’T PULL!!Most matted hair will break apart more easily if you use a picking action, rather than trying to pull a comb or rake through a hunk of hair. Correct picking technique is very similar to the technique we use to comb up hair in preparation to scissoring. You are lifting the tool in and out of the hair, not pulling through. Pick from the ends of the hair toward the skin, not from the skin out. The objective of picking is to loosen the hair.

Got it today and used it my Norwegian Forest cat who has a very long coat and a very thick undercoat. He gets some matting after an annual molt, mostly on his belly and under the legs. Used the tool and and did an amazing job removing the fur clumps. I feel safe using it because of the rounded teeth that grasp and gently cut through the fur without any danger of poking the skin. I also used it to brush through his top coat, and it easily removed all the “lose” hair. Wish I knew about this earlier. Very happy with the product!

We adopted a disgustingly fat cat (22 pounds currently, he’s lost a whole 2 pounds!) that we’ve dubbed The Majestic Walrus. The previous owner had not told us that he was quite severely matted, unable to clean his back half. The mats made him ornery, prone to biting and generally unhappy.Atter a year of gently teasing mats only to find a new one immediately, we bought this tool. It is an absolute LIFE SAVER. After two days of brushing him slowly, with time in between to keep him calm, he is now mat free and much more active. Some of the more severe mats required a little finesse, but for the most part everything went smooth and easy. I only got bit once hahah.Fat Kitty thanks you, Pet Republique.

Holy cow! This comb is like a slicker comb on steroids. I have a rather large, very fluffy, pretty matted cat. I called the vet about having her shaved and found that they wanted a minimum of $75 to do the job. I decided to try alternatives first so I started looking online for a good tool for dematting by cat. I came across this one, and the reviews were mostly good so I decided to give it a try. Immediately upon opening the package, I was impressed with the solid, balanced, weighty feel of the comb. The grip fits my hand nicely and is comfortable to hold and use. I started gently combing the cat with it and she seems to really enjoy the feel. It only takes a very light touch to get right into the undercoat and start removing masses of loose hair. The comb has two sides, one with fewer teeth spaced farther apart. It is recommended that you start by using the wider spaced teeth first, then switch to the tighter side for maintenance and finish work. Within just a few minutes, I had removed an amazing abundance of loose hair from the cat. We still have a long way to go and I have only begun to start on the actual matted areas, but I am impressed with both the quality and functionality of this nice comb. I’ve removed a few of the smaller knots and began picking apart some of the larger ones. I am confident that this tool will do the job and my cat (who is relatively skittish) is being very accepting. I can only assume that means I’m not hurting her with the deep combing and pulling. I will update the post with my final thoughts once I get her all straightened out.

So my adorable dog Nox is half golden doodle and half husky (she was a accident, guess her mom roamed around and fell in love with a husky). Her fur is quite the mix…she’s got the husky undercoat, which then kind of grows out into the curly doodle fur; but it’s not all the way curly it’s like a wavy tangled mess. To add to this she despises being clean and looking nice and goes out of her way to be wet, dirty and rub her head and body into everything to really mat up her coat. This comb brushed through her fur like BUTTER, it easily pulled out all the little knots and mats that I usually spend quite some time trying to get through. She hates it, but as I’ve said she hates everything that makes her look nice. I could not believe all of the fur/knots/mats it pulled out and with such little effort; it took me a fraction of the time to comb her than normal. I highly recommend this comb for any dog that has mat issues, thick undercoats…long thick fur…it…is…amazing.

Why did I wait so long to buy this amazing product. I have thrown out all other pet brushes. This is the brush for all types. I bought for my lab/shepherd mix. Was curious how it would do for my nebelung (breed) cat. Which is a long hair and needs to be brushed almost weekly. I started on my dog and with 2 strokes sooooo much under coat came off. My dog looks a good 10lbs lighter and she loves it. I collected a good walmart bag off of her. Then my cat let’s just say she was in heaven. Both my pets look much better and their coats are softer and look healthy.I highly recommend this as well as highly recommend you go outside too lol

I have been trying different combs to remove the undercoat from my Yorkie/Pommie mix dog and this one is the only one that has worked without causing pain due to skin abrasion! I highly recommend this for dogs with sensitive dermis.

I would not recommend this tool for dogs with hair who get regular mats. This tool is a good idea, but the execution isn’t great. It fits great in my hand and works as expected to dig into tough mats, but the blades are pretty dull. I’d go as far to say that the blades are useless. I have a goldendoodle who has a curly coat, so I deal with small mats regularly, and this tool couldn’t get through them without major discomfort. However, I’d opine that if the inside curve of the blades (the part that never touches the skin) was sharper, it’d be a perfect.

I received this today and it is amazing. I have a cat that no amount of brushing keeps the mats from forming on her fur. I used this tonight and was able to get more then 1/2 way through her back… wonderful tool I attached a picture of her and the gargage can where all the mats are now.. Started at her neck and worked down and you can see how smooth she is until the mats start again. More tomorrow night.. 🙂 Love it

I have a Malshipoo that gets random knots/mats occasionally. Typically, she is well groomed but she was tangle her ear or a spot in her tail. I can sorta rip through them with this instead of cutting with scissors but it isn’t as sharp as I expect and don’t feel that it “cuts” as I expected. I try to work from bottom up but feel I pull it more than cut through it. She would rather I just use scissors. Maybe a different hair type would work better?

My dog has so much hair. Living in NC it know longer knows when to thicken or shed! This product works great, especially with matting.Must use gently…then your pup will love it too.

This is an excellent product! It works perfectly. I have a Rag Doll cat that has super thick long fuzzy fur. Although her fur is not prone to matting, she doesn’t like being groomed. The first time I used it was in her arm pit where there was a small but close to the skin matt. I calmed her down with a good ear rub them picked up the tool so she couldn’t see it. She was purring and didn’t stop as I started grooming process. I got out that mat and a few others… and she’s still purring. Although she wasn’t patient for a complete grooming, it worked! I was’nt scratched or bitten. She was happy and so was I.In the photo you can see the area inside the curve where the blades are sharp. The nicely curved teeth are not pokey on the end: it lifts the hair like a comb, and olny cuts the hair when it meets the resistance of the mat. I was amazed how well this works. Definitely a well thought out tool. (And it’s purple, what else could I ask for? )

I bought this as a final attempt to get a gigantic mat out of my beautiful Pepper’s fur before I resorted to shaving her down. The mat was right on her chest and was difficult for her to reach and difficult to work at so in came this comb and after 10 minutes of slowly working at it the mat came out and she was a happy cat again who didn’t look all haggard with matting.

I am so thankful I found this tool for my senior cat! In the last month or so he has started getting mats along his back where I assume he can’t groom himself as well as he used to. I used scissors to trim the mats, I used a regular cat brush, I used my fingers – nothing would work!I bought this tool after much research and reading of reviews. I figured if it didn’t do the job I’d just return it.I received it today and immediately went to work. At first, I didn’t think it was going to work. It was just pulling his fur and making him mad. But once I got the technique figured out it worked like a charm! It removed every mat and thinned his fur. I should’ve taken a picture of the hand full of mats/fur I was able to comb from him! Wonderful tool!

The blades are dull and useless. It just pulls on the hair and is painful. My pets loveee getting brushed but while I was away on vacation they went to a doggie hotel and didn’t get brushed and developed mats in their long hair from playing. They HATED this thing. Its totally useless. A regular brush was less painful and in the end, they were shaved. It will grow back and hopefully by then I find better products so that I don’t have to be afraid of letting them be playful pups.

I am new to pet grooming, and this product allows me to groom dogs easily.

These really help keep the hair smooth and matting down for my goldendoodle!

I have an 80-lb. golden-doodle and getting mats out of his ears and tail has been a real pain. I figured I’d give this a try and if it didn’t work it wouldn’t be the first time I wasted my money. Boy was I surprised! Not only is it easy to use but also worked very well. It was also easy on the dog and he didn’t fuss about me “de-matting” him. This product is well worth the $$.

A nut came off and all the blades came out from the rod that holds them together.

I absolutely LOVE this brush! I have purchased several deshedding brushes in the past and none of them have worked like this! I was able to quickly and gently brush all of the hair in this picture in ONE setting! Buddy looks like he lost weight and he has not been as hot as he normally is! I would highly recommend this!

I have a 60 pound Standard Poodle and her hair mates very easily and this tool, which my groomer uses, helps me to keep her as tangled free as possible between trips to the shop. She does not mind me using it, actually it detangles her easier than a comb or brush. Would highly recommend.

Well our guy is obviously not a poodle, but a “poodle comb” was recommended by fellow chow owners. Not sure how I picked this one, pure luck I guess! Our guy came back from vacation with many dreadlocks, matted hair & he lost his brush. I immediately went on amazon to replace it. He’s never been a fan of being brushed but this comb is stealthy. He doesn’t even notice I’m brushing for about 20mins! The little thumb tab really helps with my comfort too!Update 3/16/19:6 days later, the handle broke. Am sending back for a replacement since I did really like how it worked on tobey’s mats. Hope it was just a defect and the next one will last longer. Will update again.

I have a Goldendoodle with long curly hair that mats around his neck and it is almost impossible to brush once it gets long, so once a year i usually have to have him trimmed short m,uch to my dismay. Now it looks as though Bo can keep his coat because of this tool with a little more time grooming it gets those deep matts out around his neck and ears without any discomfort to pup. When he sees me pick up the rake he comesright over to me. He obviously likes the relief it brings. if you have a long haired dog you need to get one of these rakes.,
